Lady Marie Stubbs to teach north east business leaders to think out of the box
Lady Marie Stubbs, author of Ahead of the Class, has been announced as the speaker at the inaugural Out of the Box workshop. The innovative business workshop will encourage local business leaders to think out of the box; aimed at business owners and Chief Executives across the North East the events, which are organised by Enterprise North East trust and sponsored by LloydsTSB Scotland, will provide business leaders with the chance to network with their peers whilst also offering them unprecedented learning opportunities. The Out of the Box workshop will take place on Wednesday 19 April 2006 at Ardoe House Hotel, by Aberdeen. Lady Stubbs says, “I enjoy returning to Scotland to deliver a wide range of seminars including workshops such as the event being organised by Enterprise North East Trust. I believe that growing up in Glasgow helped to forge the leadership style for which I have become known and hopefully this will prove to be of interest to the business leaders of the North East.” In 2000 Lady Marie Stubbs came out of retirement and took over St George’s Roman Catholic Secondary School in Maida Vale. Following the tragic death of its headmaster, Philip Lawrence in 1995, standards at the school had dropped dramatically and the school was facing permanent closure. Leading the task force, Lady Stubbs had just four terms to turn St George’s from a failing school facing closure into a well-run, happy and effective school. In just over a year, by working closely with staff, students and parents, Lady Stubbs transformed the school; so much so that it was praised by Ofsted as a national example of good practice. Glasgow born, Lady Stubbs has also held posts including running a secure unit for girls in South London and the headship of the Douay Martyrs School in Ickenham which she took to Beacon Status. Lady Stubbs was also a member of the RSA Council and the National Council for Educational Technology and on the Board of the Teacher Training Agency.
“The Out of the Box business workshops are designed to challenge business leaders and make them look at business problems in a different way,” comments Joyce Duncan, director of operations of Enterprise. “Lady Stubbs’ experience in turning around St George’s should provide much food for thought and will, we hope, prove inspirational for the business leaders attending the event.” Lady Stubbs is a member of the board of De Montfort University and also works at the London Business School on the Executive MBA course. She also sits on the board of various charities including The Catholic Childrens Society Westminster. In addition she has worked with the police and the NHS, as well as various universities and educational bodies, delivering a variety of seminars. In 2005 Lady Stubbs was nominated as Scotswoman of the Year.
