Enterprise Annual Review
Enterprise North East Trust, held its annual general meeting last night, Wednesday 30 November 2005 at the Treetops Hotel, Aberdeen. Approximately 170 business men and women from across the North East attended the event. The event was sponsored by Lloyds TSB Corporate. Steve Cook, chairman of Enterprise North East Trust, said “Enterprise North East Trust has been providing business support services to the Grampian region for 10 years and we are extremely proud of the record that we have for helping approximately 950 new businesses to start each year.” Alison Smith of activpayroll, Stuart Oag of Stewart Milne Construction and Councillor Jenny Watson of Aberdeenshire Council were all re-elected as Directors of Enterprise North East Trust. The highlight of the evening was a talk by exuberant behavioural science expert, Annette Simmons, of Group Process Consulting, on Turf Wars. Annette, a specialist in the field of behavioural science, provided an entertaining insight into the games which are played covertly in many businesses often with a detrimental impact on operations. The ten territorial games include camouflage, occupation, shunning and intimidation. “One of the common territorial games is occupation. This occurs when people effectively mark their territory by, for example, withholding information or monopolising relationships. This is detrimental to business as it restricts access to information,” said Annette. “It is important to remember that territorial game playing is based on fear. Your staff need to know that they are trusted and that you, their employer, has faith in them to be able to carry out their work.” “Annette Simmons, is a very inspiring and interesting lady, who provided an insight into her extensive research in the behavioural science field and her work on the territorial games” Chris Travis, chief executive of Enterprise commented, “In addition the Annual General Review provided the opportunity for local business people and our stakeholders to find out about the achievements and successes of Enterprise over the last year and our plans for the future. We are extremely proud of the fact that 80% of business assisted by Enterprise survives to year three and beyond.” Enterprise can provide business advice, through Business Gateway, for all sizes of business on all aspects of running a successful business.
