LDS Break the Training Barrier
Date: 23 Feb 05 Enterprise North East Trust is holding an evening event for local businesses on Wednesday 23 February 2005, at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre from 6pm onwards. The ‘Facing the Challenges’ event, sponsored by learndirect scotland, will look at the main barriers which prevent companies from engaging in formal training methods. Speaking at the event will be Ian Heywood Director of Skills and Learning at Scottish Enterprise Grampian and Graeme Ross of JG Ross Bakers. Ian Heywood will identify the business benefits that can be gained from investing in training and development and will look at the support available from Scottish Enterprise Grampian. Ian says, "It is important that businesses invest time and money into skills and learning methods to help employees grow and develop. Learning and skills development needs to be embedded into the heart of the business to keep innovation and creativity driving the business forward. There are many benefits to be gained. Employees are one of the biggest assets an organisation may have and it’s important to attract a high calibre of staff and then ensure you retain them. I will be giving delegates an insight into the support that Scottish Enterprise Grampian can give them and also putting them in touch with other support bodies." Kay Newton of learndirect scotland will be giving delegates an overview of how they can help businesses source training for their staff. She says, "At learndirect scotland we can help businesses to make the most of their employees by assessing their business learning needs and sourcing the most suitable training to meet these needs. "We visit companies to do a business learning assessment, and from this we can uncover the main barriers which are preventing many companies from engaging in training. For some small companies, they may not have the on-site facilities to engage in training, so we can offer them e-learning packages in workforce development, or they can attend learning events at one of our learning centres located across Scotland." The event will enable delegates to gain professional business advice on areas which can be of great benefit to their company. Attendees can ask the speakers questions relating to their business sector and will also have the opportunity to network with other local business people from the north east. The‘Facing the Challenges’ event is free of charge due to the sponsorship of learndirect scotland.
