Finalists Announced


Grampian Awards for Business Enterprise 2005

Environmentally friendly bugs, antibody production, fitness fanatics, a Livestock Mart, a Mexican and pizza delivery company and a leading charity are at the heart of some of the businesses which are finalists in the Grampian Awards for Business Enterprise. The finalists were announced on 6th April following a record breaking number of entries.

The Awards, which are in their sixth year, recognise business achievement in the north east for companies of all sizes and are organised by Enterprise North East Trust(Enterprise) and sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland and Business Gateway (in association with Scottish Enterprise Grampian).

The award categories for 2005 are as follows:

  • New Business Award - businesses that have been trading for less than 1 year at 1 June 2005.
    Bugstop - Aberdeen Environmentally friendly barrier for crop pests.
    Fitnut - Inverurie   Health awareness for organisations
    Poseidon - Inverurie  Precision waterjet cutting service
  • Young Business Award - businesses that have been trading for less than 3 years at 1 June 2005.
    activitymix - Aberdeen  Runs corporate sports tournaments
    Caledus - Aberdeen  Oil and gas well products and services
    Haptogen - Aberdeen  Antibody development company

  • Business Growth Award - for businesses that have been trading for more than 3 years and have shown significant growth in one or more of the following areas; Training; Marketing; People development; E-commerce; International trade.
    Heavenly Pizzas - Aberdeen Independent pizza delivery operator
    Optima - Aberdeen Provides project management and engineering consultancy work for oil rig cooling systems
    Zeroth Technology - Aberdeenshire      Provides innovative solutions to overcome current and future technical challenges.
  • The Alick Buchanan Smith Spirit of Enterprise Award - businesses that will be more than 5 years old at 1 June 2005. Businesses applying for the award should highlight significant enterprise, growth, and development of new ideas and contribution to the local economy.
    ANM - Inverurie   Offer livestock marketing and auctioneering
    Cornerstone - Aberdeen  Charity providing care to special needs
    Minto Design and Print - Inverurie    Provide high quality design and print solutions
  • Sir Ian Wood Award for Innovation - for businesses who can demonstrate an innovative approach to product or service development. This should demonstrate originality and innovation in product or service delivery, and have had or have the potential to have a positive impact on the Grampian economy.
    Caledus - Aberdeen  Oil and gas well products and services
    Haptogen - Aberdeen  Antibody development company
    Polyoil - Aberdeen Developed pioneering new technology for the oil and gas industry

  • Ian Davidson Award for Entrepreneurship - presented to a young entrepreneur (under 35 on 9 June 2005) who has demonstrated genuine flair, risk taking and business achievement. The Award is for personal achievement and may reflect the success and/or performance of more than one business venture.     Winners will be announced at a black tie awards ceremony on Thursday 9 June at Ardoe House Hotel by Aberdeen. Karren Brady, Managing Director of Birmingham City Football Club, will be keynote speaker at the prestigious event.
