Winner - New Business Award Poseidon was established in December 2004 by Garry Crichton, wife Marie and Harry Dick as Technical Director to provide a precision waterjet cutting service to the North East of Scotland.  It has installed one of the most technologically advanced machines available today and the only one of its kind in the UK.   It uses high velocity water and garnet to erode material in a precise way and can cut any material from ornate granite, glass and ceramics to 10 inch steel for engineering and fabrication use.  A steadily growing customer base has been drawn from model makers, granite and natural stone suppliers, ceramic distributors and oil-related engineers.

The team faced the challenge of raising a six-figure sum independently to acquire this state of the art technology and the company is securing work that would normally be carried out in other areas of the UK and continental Europe, bringing fresh revenue and employment opportunities to the Grampian area - all in just six months of operation. The team will not be resting on its laurels and aims to establish facilities in other locations and will consider opening premises south of Aberdeen and a workshop in Inverness.  It is working towards attaining ISO approval and ultimately to gain aerospace approval so to carry out work for the aviation industry – all in its endeavour to be regarded as one of the most sophisticated and technologically advanced waterjet facilities in the UK.
